One of the best and most relaxing days we had in Luang Prabang was spent lazily cruising the river on a private boat ride. We had seen the boat drivers around the river hawking their services, and finally we decided it was something we were interested in doing. We arranged a price with the driver, and were soon on our way in a huge boat we had all to ourselves, for an hour in the sunshine just taking in the sites. We saw Laotian people working in boats and along the river. We saw some young monks playing soccer along the river, and we saw children swimming. The landscapes were gorgeous and could have easily been from anywhere in the Pacific Northwest (but the temperatures were quite a bit warmer than home), and we were able to just sit back, relax, and enjoy the bounty and beauty of Laos.
We love riding on boats–both for leisure and transportation purposes. Where’s your all-time favorite place to go boating?

My favorite would have to be the ferries in the San Juan Islands. That was a LOT of boat all to yourselves!:-)
Oh yes, I love all of the Seattle area ferries! The views going to the San Juan Islands are definitely some of the best in our part of the world!
