Malaysia is like mecca for food lovers. Because of its diverse population, the food of Malaysia is a delicious mix of Chinese, Malay, Indian and Indonesian. Plus, there’s the ever present presence of Western food, lot’s of bubble tea, coffee, and beer. Malaysia is not a place where you walk around feeling hungry for very long! Here were some of our Malaysian favorites!
Because we mostly stayed in Chinatown in Kuala Lumpur, we had a plethora of delicious Chinese food. We would just wander into the busy market street in Chinatown, plop down in one of the plastic red chairs, and gorge ourselves on cheap noodles and beers. The ambiance of Chinatown is part of the experience–watching the chaos on the street and eavesdropping on other tourists is all part of Chinatown’s charm.
Little India is just around the corner from Chinatown in Kuala Lumpur, so we spent a decent amount of time feasting on curries and breads. Your best bet for Indian food is to find a place packed with locals–its bound to be delicious and cheap. We scored all this food below for about $3 USD. Gotta love that!
The fruit in Malaysia is AMAZING. Tropical fruits are super cheap, fresh and incredibly delicious. When we were in Penang, we ate fruit and fruit shakes more than regular food. We just couldn’t get enough of it!
Everything we ate in Malaysia was so delicious that I got lazy about taking food pictures! So this is all you get for today. But no worries, next up is Cambodia, where we had some of the best food of our trip. Stay tuned! Oh, and happy New Years!
