Walking into the Hello Kitty Cafe in Seoul is like walking into a Barbie house. Everything is pink, girly and glittery. The iconic little cat’s face is on everything–the walls, the cups, even in the foam of your coffee. If you are a 9 year old girl (or me), it’s kind of a dream come true.
I found this cafe in the Hongdae neighborhood of Seoul quite some time ago, but I knew immediately I had to save my visit to this little gem for when my friend Meg was visiting. Meg is a little obsessed with Hello Kitty, and I knew this place would be right up her alley!
Even though I don’t have any particular attachment to Hello Kitty, I still thought the cafe was really fun. It’s so delectably girly, and the coffee was actually pretty good (something not true of most chain coffee shops in Korea). I was a little disappointed that my cappuccino didn’t come with a cute cat face on it, but luckily, Meg’s latte did, so I still had something to photograph. We had a great afternoon drinking our coffees, taking pictures of all the kitschy and cute quirks of the cafe, and soaking up all the girliness. The boys humored us, which is always a good thing.
What do you think? Would you ever visit the Hello Kitty Cafe?

I also ordered a cappuccino and was very disappointed when it came out with only a brown dot of cinnamon. Luckily, I was also with someone far smarter than me who ordered a latte.
Great photos. I love this place!

They need a disclaimer that the cappuccinos aren’t going to be cute, haha! We had a blast, even though it was totally cheesy.
My 21 year old daughter would have loved this coffee shop, as well as I would love to go there too! Very cute! Glad you are having so much fun with your friend!
It was such a weird but cute place–very Korea!
This is on our (well, MY, haha) to-do list when we hit Seoul in a couple of weeks. I’ve had it planned since I first heard that there were Hello Kitty cafes to be found! So exciting. Great tip to order a Latte if you want the HK face – thanks for that!
Kitty, here I come!
